Eating Disorder
Peer Support Training

Coming Spring 2025

  • Do you have lived experience with an eating disorder?

  • Do you feel strong in your recovery?

  • Would you like to give back by supporting others in their recovery journey?

  • Do you feel ready to become a peer supporter (if you have questions about your readiness, click here)?

  • If you answered 'yes' to the previous questions, maybe you should become an eating disorder peer supporter.

What is an eating disorder peer supporter?

Eating Disorder Peer Supporters are individuals with their own lived experience of an eating disorder who support others in their recovery by sharing the knowledge gained through their own recovery. Their support usually comes in the form of 1:1 mentoring, counseling or coaching and the facilitation of support groups. Peer supporters are not clinicians (unless their are a licensed clinician that happens to have lived experience).

Who should be a peer supporter?

Peer supporters should have lived experience of an eating disorder AND a strong understanding and history of recovery. Because this work is highly personal, it can be triggering for many peer supporters (thus potentially harmful for clients); therefore individuals seeking to become peer supporters should be in a healthy place in their recovery, and have extensive training and proper support and supervision.
